East Anglian Collie Association

EACA Smooths and Roughs Open Show 13th April 2025 I would like to take this opportunity to thank East Anglian Collie Association for inviting me to judge Show 1 Smooth and Rough Collies as always it was a relaxed well run, friendly show made possible by the superb committee. I would especially like to express my gratitude to every exhibitor who kindly gave me the opportunity to access their beautiful Collies leaving me with some difficult decisions to be made. All dogs were of sound temperament and presented in good condition I did however find one or two dogs who’s teeth were not as clean as they could be. SMOOTH COLLIES Class 1 Puppy Dog or Bitch (3/1) 1st - Benton M K & Bemelmans E - Blamorder Double Or Quits Of Oakestelle B 10 month old Blue Merle has a pleasing outline good height to length ratio. Lovely expression, well filled muzzle would prefer a little more underjaw. Ears of good size and used to her advantage. Strong neck of good length, level back with required slight rise over loin. Strong hocks with well turned stifle which allowed her to move with plenty of drive. I am sure she will have a bright future ahead. Pleased to award her BPIB, RBOB. 2nd - Brown G & Davies M - Blamorder I Dreamed A Dream At Wystry B litter sister to winner this time a Tri she is of a similar size and shape nothing out of proportion. Head handled well correctly placed stop, dark eye, ears correct size preferred the expression of her sister. Deep chest good length of back. Coat colour was lovely and black. Movement was clean and smooth. Class 2 Yearling Dog or Bitch (0/0) Class 3 Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (3/1) As class 1 1st - Benton M K & Bemelmans E - Blamorder Double Or Quits Of Oakestelle 2nd Brown G & Davies M - Blamorder I Dreamed A Dream At Wystry Class 4 Limit Dog or Bitch (1/1) Class 5 Open Dog (1/0) 1st - Wensley RC & M - Ch Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive JW 3yrs old Tri who was all male very outgoing. Head balanced super dark eye well placed ears of correct size. Excellent reach if neck and length of back, super spring of rib and width of brisket. Well muscled in thigh his construction suggested he would move well which he did with ease in all directions. BD, BOS. Class 6 Open Bitch (5/0) What a superb class full of beautiful bitches I was spoilt for choice. 1st - French AE - Int CH Indigo Aura Agree To Disagree with Breckamore (Imp) 4yr old Tri who took my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Ultra feminine everything in proportion. Lovely clean cheeks, good fill in muzzle, dark eye well tipped ears. Arch of neck that I could see as well as feel. Super width to brisket well sprung rib. Well rounded bone and tight feet. Toned body especially in upper thigh which enabled her to move with drive. Subsequently found out this was her first show in the UK I will watch her progress with interest. BB, BOB delighted to see her go on to be awarded BIS. 2nd - Benton MK - CH Brackenhaye Queen of Hearts of Oakestelle 5yrs Tri Another quality bitch that presented a lovely outline in profile. Lovely head of good shape well placed stop dark eyes correct shape, size ears. Well angulated front and rear giving her a smooth gait on the move. Tail well set and of good length. A difficult decision but in the end preferred the arch of neck of 1. 3rd - Howard CJ - Shandlmain’s Sofistikate ROUGH COLLIES Class 7 Baby Puppy Dog Or Bitch (4/2) 1st - Vogan D & S - Lenosann Wildest Dreams B 5mths old sable. A very promising youngster who is developing nicely. Had a lovely temperament taking her first show in her stride. Almond shaped dark eyes well filled muzzle clean through the cheeks, correct scissor bite altogether giving a very pleasing picture. Correct length to height ratio, super long tail. Moved well for one so young not putting a foot wrong. 2nd - Collino DM - Imaginist Frozen in Time B 4mth old Blue. She is of the clearest blue colour splashed with black. Giving a little away with age class winner was more developed. She did however have the shape of head I was looking for nicely balanced correct eye size and shape super underjaw. Excelled length of neck and tail. Very elegant indeed in profile. At this young age not as together on the move as 1 but I am sure will come into her own as she matures. Class 8 Veteran Dog (6/1) 1st - Moore G - Astromelias Ulises Via Caprioara (Sp Imp) 7 yrs sable there was no mistaking he was a male very much in his prime. Liked his size and his coat a rich mahogany of the correct texture. Head was a well blunted wedge well filled muzzle, although a little deep through. Dark eyes set correctly gave a gentle expression. A strong neck and level top line. Well rounded bone lovely tight feet. He came to life on the move leaving no doubt he could do a days work. BVD. BVIB who went on to be awarded BVIS. 2nd - Mellish M - Demelewis Truth Or Dare 7 yrs old Blue. I liked his shape giving him an air of elegance in profile. Well balanced head smooth through the cheeks, muzzle well filled. Almond eye, correct stop giving the desired expression neat ears nicely tipped. Good length of neck level top line, length of tail. Well angulated with a lovely turn to stifle which allowed him to move with a good reach in front and parallel in rear action. In the end I felt class winner had the edge on the move today. 3rd - Williams J - CH Mejola Fate And Fortune Shcex Class 9 Minor Puppy Dog (2/0) 1st - Randall DA & SP - Ladnar Call Me Name 8mths Blue. Liked this puppies overall appearance. Muzzle well filled, correct scissor bite lovely eye shape and placement giving a sweet expression would prefer a higher ear set. Long neck nice length to back with rise over loin. Excellent bone strong straight front legs. Coat is of good colour and texture fitting his outline groomed to perfection. Moved steady and true in all directions. BMPD, BPD. 2nd - French AE - Breckamore Paddington 6mths sable. Really liked this puppy at this stage not as mature as 1. Preferred his wedge shaped head which is developing well, flat skull, super almond shaped eye. Ears correctly set but need to settle. Broad in chest, body slightly longer than height as standard asks for. Well angulated in front and rear. Movement was as expected for one so young as he comes together I am sure he will command attention. Class 10 Puppy Dog (2/1) 1st - Randall DA & SP - Ladnar Call Me Maybe 8mths Blue. Litter brother to winner of minor puppy. Very similar in make and shape not quite as mature at this stage. Balanced head well defined stop, lovely almond eye obliquely set ears correct size and shape. Strong neck and top line standing a little high in rear at the moment. Well rounded bone lovely tight feet. Moved well in front but needs to strengthen in rear which I am sure he will do as he settles into his frame. Class 11 Junior Dog (0/0) Class 12 Yearling Dog (3/0) 1st - Williams J - Mejola Top Gun JW 20mth old sable. Handsome youngster who I seriously considered for reserve dog. Lovely balanced outline in profile. Quality head level planes with well placed stop. Eye shape and size gave a pleasing expression topped of with small well tipped ears. Neck flows into a strong top line and croup tail well set and carried low. Movement was smooth and purposeful. I look forward to watching his progress as he matures. 2nd - Collino DM - Imaginist A Griffin’s Mark 19mth Tri. Another striking young male who pushed class winner hard. He also had a pleasing outline in profile I liked his length of back. His head was a clean wedge well set ears sweet expression which is difficult to achieve in a Tri colour. Strong straight forelegs neat feet. Coat was the darkest black harsh to the touch rich tan markings. Not as collected on the move as 1 today. 3rd - Gatt M - Imaginist Superior Sun Class 13 Post Graduate Dog (6/1) 1st - Ross YJ - Siluto Blue Wizzard At Amberwish 2yrs old Blue. I have judged this young lad before as a puppy pleased to see he is maturing nicely. Moved well but was not as smooth and true as winner today. 3rd - Walton E - Sassari Smudge Class 14 Limit Dog (4/0) 1st - Cooper C - Kelekona Hearts Of Gold JW 2yrs old Sable. Another I have judged as a puppy I liked him then he certainly has improved even more with age. He stood out in this class with his elegant shape no part out of proportion. I liked the length of his head which was a well blunted wedge correct dentition, flat skull with ears bang on top to be critical would preferred a slightly more oblique eye but this didn’t detract from his handsome all male expression. His neck was long and strong superb top line and croup. Tail was of correct length and held well on the move. Front and rear movement was effortless no waste of energy I am sure could keep this up all day. Coat fitted his outline which was a rich mahogany in colour and weatherproof. A well deserved BD, RBOB. 2nd - Vogan D & S - Luminous Moon Over Lenosann 3yr old Blue. I have admired this dog from the ringside he is of the clearest blue flashy full white collar grabs your attention. His head handles well two level planes, clean stop, good fill to muzzle lovely flat skull ears well placed. Good length of neck giving a balanced outline with length of back and tail. One of the best heads in the males today with perfect balance between skull and foreface. His expression is all male so smooth in cheek no flare to back skull. Tight lip line, correct scissor bite. A well arched neck strong top line well set tail held correctly on the move. Well off for bone. Coat fitting his outline as standard asks for but would prefer a clearer blue. Similar in shape as winner in profile. His head was clean lovely wedge shape correct bite well filled muzzle. Plenty length to neck matched by length of back. Well rounded bone.
