DERMATOMYOSITIS
Dermatomyositis (DMS), is an autoimmune condition that can cause skin lesions and muscle inflammation. Predominantly seen on the face and legs areas of the dogs body.
COLLIE EYE ANOMOLY
Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), a congenital eye disorder that can influence vision. Dogs born with more severe forms, such as Staphyloma or Vascular Disease, are at risk of potential vision loss, particularly if issues arise later in life. However, the majority of mildly affected dogs can maintain adequate vision and fulfilling lives.
MULTI DRUG RESISTANCE 1
Multi Drug Resistance Gene 1 (MDR1) is a genetic mutation which the way in which medications are metabolized. If your dog has an unknown MDR1 status, your veterinarian will usually adopt a precautionary approach and treat your dog as if they are affected to avoid any potential adverse medication reactions.
DEGENERATIVE MYLEPATHY
Degenerative Mylepathy (DM), is a spinal chord disease that causes the rear limbs to gradually weaken over time resulting in loss of function and eventually paralysis.
Rough collies are generally a healthy breed but there are some health conditions to be aware of.
Health tests can be carried out via a saliva swab or blood samples. Dogs can be categorised into affected, carrier, clear, low risk or high risk. Knowing which status our dog(s) categorise as can enable us to adequately care for our dogs.
