Rough Collies

It was an honour to assess such a high calibre of dogs, with placements often proving a real challenge due to the exceptional quality. Every dog was presented beautifully. My sincere thanks to the committee for hosting such a well-organised and welcoming show, and to my stewards for their invaluable support throughout the day.

Class 1 – Baby Puppy Dog or Bitch (4,1)

1st - Mrs J Williams, Mejola Endeavour At just 4½ months, this sable male entered the ring with the confidence of a seasoned show dog. He displays excellent substance for his age, with a pleasing head, strong underjaw, and correctly placed ears that he used well. Attentive to his handler and moving in harmony, he shows great promise and will be one to watch.

2nd - Mrs J Williams, Mejola Edge Of Glory Litter sister to the winner, this 4½ month old sable bitch is equally promising, sharing many of her brother’s qualities. Slightly less settled on the day, but nonetheless a lovely youngster.

Class 2 - Veteran Dog (1,0)

1st - Mr C Bartram, Ambartr King Of The Ring This 8½ year old sable male is in excellent condition for his age. He has a clean head with a slightly small eye, a slight stop, and a firm neck. Chest of good depth and width and his proportions are correct, presenting a clearly masculine outline. Movement showed signs of age with dropping pasterns, but he was beautifully presented and in good coat.

Class 3 - Minor Puppy (0)

Class 4 - Puppy Dog (2,1)

1st - Mr G Falletto, Verysuper Black Di Cambiano A raw but promising 10 month old tri dog who needs time to mature. He has a pleasing head, sweet eye, and well set ears, along with a good length of neck and a lovely long tail. Movement was unsettled and erratic, and he would benefit from additional weight. Presentation was excellent.

Class 5 - Junior Dog (4,2)

1st - Miss M Blake, Corydon The Baronet This 15 month old tri dog has a lovely outline and a clean head with strong underjaw, slight stop. Eyes are well placed though slightly small, and ears are nicely set. He has good chest depth, ample substance, and strong rear angulation. Moved soundly with drive.

2nd - Mr D & Mrs S Randall, Ladnar Call My Name A 12 month old blue merle dog with excellent colour and a pleasing outline. His head and expression are very appealing, with correct features throughout. He has a strong neck, good bone, and balanced angulation. Unfortunately, his movement lacked enthusiasm and tail carriage was incorrect today.

Class 6 - Post Graduate Dog (2,0)

1st - Mrs P Rowlinson, Hanvale Alexandra McQueen A 2 year old sable dog of slightly smaller stature. He has a kind expression, beautiful dark eyes, and well-set ears. Head is slightly broader. Good angulation and moved well, though tail is a little short.

2nd - Miss M Gatt, Imaginist Superior Sun At 23 months, this sable dog presents a nice head and expression, with correct eye and stop placement. Slightly short in upper arm and topline slopes off. Movement was acceptable.

Class 7 - Limit Dog (5,2)

1st - Mrs J Hanson, Jards Ring Presence A 4 year old shaded sable dog I've followed since puppyhood. He’s matured into a dignified and masculine male with a well proportioned head, dark expressive eyes, and correctly placed ears. Strong neck, good chest, and balanced angulation front and rear. Moved well.

2nd - Mrs S Wray-Ramsden, Takhisis Daggers At Dawn JW A 2 year old shaded sable with a lovely outline and excellent neck length. Slightly shorter in body, with good substance. Head has a deeper stop and wider ear set. Dark eyes and good underjaw. Nicely angulated and moved well. Beautifully presented.

Class 8 - Open Dog (4,1)

1st – Mrs A & Mr K Harvey, Afterglow Invocation Now 5 years old, this shaded sable male has matured beautifully since I last judged him at 2. His rich coat and dignified presence are striking. He has a lovely outline with a slight rise over the loin, a beautifully balanced head, dark oblique eyes, clean muzzle, strong underjaw, and well tipped ears. His neck is powerful and of good length, with a deep chest and good substance. Rear is well muscled and angulated. Moved with enthusiasm and drive.

2nd - Miss M Blake, Corydon The Grandmaster Another excellent 5 year old shaded sable. He shares many qualities with the winner, including a correct outline and clean head. Eyes and ears are well placed, and he also has plenty of substance. Movement was sound. Preference was given to the head and expression of 1st.

Class 9 - Champion Dog or Bitch (2,1)

1st - Mrs J Williams, Mejola Main Event JW A 4 year old shaded sable bitch, recently out of maternal duties and lacking coat. She has a sweet expression, dark almond-shaped eyes, and well set ears. Strong underjaw and muscular neck. Topline is lovely with a slight rise over the loin. Balanced angulation. Carrying excess weight which affected her movement.

Class 10 - Veteran Bitch (3,0)

1st - Miss D Collino, Imaginist Willow Wren This 9 year old tri bitch has a slightly shorter head but a sweet expression. Ears could be tighter. In excellent condition for her age, with good muscle tone, substance, and correct angulation. Moved out with enthusiasm.

2nd - Mr M & Mrs R Wensley, Imaginist Spellbinding A 7 year old shaded sable bitch with a feminine expression and pleasing head. Proportions are correct and coat is in good condition.  Weakness in front pasterns and rear affected her movement.

Class 11 - Minor Puppy Bitch (1,0)

1st - Miss D Collino, Imaginist Frozen In Time A 7 month old blue merle bitch of excellent colour and outline. Head qualities are good, with correct eye and ear placement and a pleasing expression. Strong neck and chest for her age, with ample bone. Moved with drive. One to watch.

Class 12 - Puppy Bitch (4,0)

1st - Miss M Gatt, Wicani Belladonna An 11 month old tri bitch with slightly heavy head proportions, though features are well placed. She has good substance and moved well, though carrying excess weight.

2nd - Miss M Davis & Mr J Walsh, Wicani Bellissima Rosschell Litter sister to 1st, this 11 month old blue merle bitch has beautiful colour and a super head with lovely dark eyes. Unfortunately, her front movement let her down today.

Class 13 - Junior Bitch (6,1)

1st - Miss M Blake, Corydon Christiana A 15 month old sable bitch, feminine and slightly smaller in size. Sweet expression, well placed almond eyes, and correct ears. Strong underjaw, good neck length, and correct topline with rise over loin into a well set tail. Moved well.

2nd - Mrs S Wray-Ramsden, Takhisis Xtraordianry Lady BWJ24 BEL JCH A 17 month old tri bitch, larger in size with plenty of bone and substance. Good neck and movement. Preferred the head and expression of 1st.

Class 14 - Post Graduate Bitch (3,1)

1st - Mrs L Quince, Oakley Ice Queen For Karafaya (Imp CHE) A 2 year old blue merle bitch with much to admire. Feminine and intelligent expression, lovely dark eye, clean muzzle, and well set ears. Strong neck, good chest depth, and correct angulation. Topline shows rise over loin, with a long tail and ample substance. Movement was light and effortless, in perfect sync with handler. Best Bitch.

2nd - Mr C Bartram, Ambartr’s Dignity And Pride 15 month old shaded sable bitch not in full coat today. Previously judged and showing good development. Lovely head and expression, good neck and body length with plenty of bone. Would prefer more underjaw. Moved well.

Class 15 - Limit Bitch (5,1)

1st - Mrs A & Mr K Harvey, Afterhero Cheeky Angel At Wicani (Imp HUN) A 2 year old blue merle bitch of beautiful colour and feminine charm. Head meets breed standard with a sweet yet intelligent expression. Strong underjaw, good substance, and lovely outline. Moved very well.

2nd - L Newman, Phreelancer Pheel It Still 2 year old shaded sable bitch with a lovely head and well set ears. Eyes are dark and well placed. Slightly less underjaw but clean muzzle. Plenty of substance, though chest is a little wide. Moved well.

Class 16 - Open Bitch (3,2)

1st - Mrs S Wray-Ramsden, BEL CH Takhisis Lady Of Mystery BW24 A 3 year old sable bitch with rich colour and a lovely standing outline. She has good substance, slightly deeper stop, and wider ear set. Eyes are dark and well placed. Moved well.
